Hillhaven Hollow has a special heart for those who serve our nation. Founder Miranda Velasquez, MA, LCDC, LMFT, CCTP, is an Army veteran who understands the unique challenges that military life can bring, from deployments and relocations to the emotional strain of balancing duty, family, and faith.
Military families often face unique circumstances when it comes to child support and parenting. The demands of service, deployment, and recovery can sometimes make navigating legal or family matters more complicated. Thankfully, there’s help available through the HEROES Program for Service Members.
The HEROES Program, short for Help Establishing Responsive Orders and Ensuring Support, was developed by the Texas Office of the Attorney General’s Child Support Division to assist active-duty service members and veterans with child support and parenting needs.
How the HEROES Program Can Help
Through the HEROES Program, military parents are connected with dedicated caseworkers who understand the unique challenges of military life. These professionals provide:
Specialized case review and management
Personalized help with paternity establishment and child support
Guidance for service members who have experienced military-related injuries that affect their ability to follow a court order
Resources and education to help parents co-parent effectively under unique circumstances
For unmarried parents, the program also offers guidance on establishing legal paternity. This process ensures that both parents have defined rights and responsibilities for their child. The program can also connect families to additional resources for custody, parenting time, and court orders related to child, medical, or dental support.
When life circumstances change, such as a shift in income or deployment, the HEROES Program can help review and, if appropriate, modify existing support orders.
Getting Help
The HEROES Program serves active military families who have a child support case in Texas. While Assistant Attorneys General represent the State of Texas (and not individual parents), service members can also reach out to private attorneys or Legal Assistance through their local Judge Advocate General (JAG) office for personal representation.
If you are a service member and need to connect with the HEROES team, you can:
Complete the form on the HEROES Program website, or
Call (512) 460-6400 to speak directly with a team member.
Hillhaven Hollow honors the strength, resilience, and sacrifice of those who serve. By sharing this resource, the practice hopes to help military families find the legal and emotional support they need to move forward with faith, confidence, and peace.
